C.D. Hoy, Cecilia, Marvin, and August (Sr.) Baker, 1910–20

Black-and-white photo of three people standing outdoors on grass, a woman and two men dressed in early 20th-century clothing.

C.D. Hoy, Cecilia, Marvin, and August (Sr.) Baker, 1910–20. P1743 Barkerville Historic Town Archives.

In this family portrait, Mary Cecilia Susan Baker (née Elmore) and her husband August Baker (originally Boulanger) flank their son, Marvin. The group represents the formation of families across cultures: August came to the Cariboo region from France; Cecilia’s father ran a fur trading post in Quesnel, and his wife, Cat’a, was an Interior Salish woman born in Lillooet, in the territory of the Stʼátʼimc people.
