C.D. Hoy, Betsy Adams (née Duchamp) and George P. Adams, c.1910

Black-and-white portrait of a woman standing beside a seated man in a studio setting, both wearing early 20th-century clothing and looking at the camera.

C.D. Hoy, Betsy Adams (née Duchamp) and George P. Adams, c.1910. P2032 Barkerville Historic Town Archives.

This portrait depicts a couple in the early years of their life together: George P. Adams, a settler in the Cariboo region who is believed to have been of African descent, and Betsy Duchamp, a local Indigenous woman, were married in Quesnel on January 27, 1912. In his years as a photographer, Hoy took numerous family pictures, as many in the town did not own their own cameras.
